Columbia Metropolitan Magazine: Insurance Professionals
Seibels is looking forward to celebrating its sesquicentennial anniversary in 2019. The company has proudly contributed nearly 150 years of service and innovation to the property and casualty insurance industry.
Since its founding in 1869, Seibels has taken great pride in embracing its rich history while welcoming a promising future. The company has recognized that a business must evolve to be successful and has therefore reinvented itself several times throughout the course of its legacy.
Rex Huggins, Chairman & CEO of Seibels, has transformed the business since joining the team as CEO in 2015. Huggins has spearheaded numerous “best-in-class” initiatives by investing in world-class technology, expanding the company’s talent base, launching internal training programs, and even renovating the company’s historic headquarters on Lady Street. Huggins is committed to aligning Seibels for success today while future proofing the business for tomorrow.
While Seibels’ services have evolved, the company’s commitment to the insurance industry and its clients remains stronger than ever. Seibels has adopted four core values that serve as the foundation of the company’s culture—respect, collaboration, accountability and transparency. These core values drive the company’s mission and are integrated into everyday life in the workplace.
Seibels has always believed that its people are its greatest asset. The company consists of a diverse mix of experienced, tenured employees and up-and-coming professionals looking to make their mark on the insurance industry. In May, Seibels was named a 2018 Top Workplace in South Carolina by Integrated Media Publishing. This award was granted based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey.
Seibels remains ever committed to the Columbia community, and is an active member of iTs-SC, Columbia’s Insurance Technology & Services Cluster. Seibels continues to raise awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through annual fundraising efforts. In 2018, Seibels and its client, Gulfstream Property & Casualty Insurance Company, raised over $78,000 for the 2018 Great Strides Campaign benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
